Allscripts is not Google. They cannot offer something for free and make money on ads. Allscripts is offering this for free so you buy their EMR software to integrate with it.

NEPSI doesn't integrate with any PMS or EMR system other than Allscripts. This is a half-baked product that is giving the rest of the solutions (both stand-alone and integrated) a bad rap. The interface is horrendous and you have to enter the patients ADT information EVERY time you want to write a script.

You get what you pay for. Why not spend $400-800/year on a good solution from one of the many vendors out there (I use DrFirst).

AH

Dr. Sucher, thanks very much for sharing your thoughts. Too bad the NEPSI interface is a little lacking; free e-prescribing sounds like a nice idea but I guess the implementation is not quite ready in certain areas.

NEPSI (aka allscripts) gives you as a physician exactly what you pay for. Nothing. Its interface is extra-ordinarily poor. For surgeon's (like myself) it reminds you that e-prescribing is still in its infancy in many states (like Texas), in that you cannot write for controlled substances. This makes e-prescribing completely useless in my practice until the laws change.

Additionally, not all pharmacies are connected. In some instances, if you write for an e-prescription that then needs to be faxed, you will be charged for that fax. This is not a problem with NEPSI per se, but a generic problem with transitioning to e-prescribing.

Bottom line. I would only recommend signing up IF you have above average computer skills, the patience of Mother Teresa, and the time of a surfer dude.
