GE wants to fund your healthcare technology idea

October 28, 2009

General Electric (GE) unveiled its $250 million GE Healthymagination Fund which was created to make investments in promising healthcare technology companies. If you’ve got some good ideas and think you can get the concepts to market, start your business plan and get in line for the money. Like most VCs, they will probably be very conservative and take time to make a decision so don’t go after their money if you can find non-VC funding.

The more players in this market the better. It would be great if some of these funds could be targeted to populations and diseases that are underrepresented. We don't need any innovation around ED, but maybe diabetes or cancer! Of course, what would be very welcome is a technology idea that would have some effect on Health Insurance costs, but I know that is asking too much! I know that healthcare is getting more expensive and driving up costs, but it would be helpful to see some innovation that didn't involve flashy and expensive new equipment.
